From Vancouver you must take a ferry from either Tsawwassen or Horseshoe Bay to either Duke Point or Departure Bay in the city of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Then you will drive about 80 km (50 miles) up Scenic Highway 19A or the new Inland Highway 19 (a divided road, speed limit 110km: recommended) to Exit 101 for Buckley Bay, Denman & Hornby Island. The drive from Victoria is about 120 miles (190 km) and will take a good three hours, also on Highway 19 or 19 A. These are actually the same road in places. The new highway bypasses such towns as Nanaimo and Parksville and is a bit faster than the scenic route. |
